If you are the smartest person in the room, it’s time to find a new room…

A childhood baseball coach of mine once said “the fastest way to become a better player is to play with people that are better than you.” Why? Because naturally in those types of environments your tendency is to level-up faster, as to not be left behind.

As we talked about last week, you should always [know your stats] and identify areas for improvement. Once you know what things you need to work on – it’s very easy to find a group of “better players” to surround yourself with and learn from.

MeetUp.com (of which, I have no affiliation) for example, is a great way to find new groups of people to network with. Explore already formed groups by location, or form your own group and let people discover you!

When you sign up for the service initially (free), it will ask you about your interests and how far you are wiling to travel. From there, you will get weekly digest emails of things happening in your area – and like magic – you will find yourself in an entirely new room of people – sharing knowledge that you never even knew existed before (at least not locally).

When you find that you are once again “the smartest person in the room” – fire-up your browser and simply find a new room…
